by Wahju Indrawati, MPd. SMPN 2 JOMBANG.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.
The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).
At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans.  In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.

COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in  December 2019.

Question:Is COVID-19 the same as SARS?
Answer:No. The virus that causes COVID-19 and the one that caused the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003 are related to each other genetically, but the diseases they cause are quite different.

SARS was more deadly but much less infectious than COVID-19. There have been no outbreaks of SARS anywhere in the world since 2003.

    Q : How does COVID 19 spread?

A : According to the World Health Organization (WHO), COVID-19 is transmitted through people who have been infected with the corona virus. The disease can spread through small droplets from the nose or mouth when someone infected with this virus sneezes or coughs.

The drops then land on an object or surface which is then touched and the healthy person touches their eyes, nose or mouth. Corona virus can also spread when small droplets are inhaled by a person when in close proximity to an infected corona.

"That is why it is important to maintain a distance of 1 meter more than people who are sick. Until now there has been no research that states the COVID-19 corona virus can be transmitted through the air," explained WHO as quoted from its website on Tuesday (03/17/2020).

    Q = Can I catch COVID-19 from my pet?
A = Coronaviruses are common in several species of domestic and wild animals, including cattle, horses, dogs, cats, ferrets, camels, bats, and others.Although not common, coronaviruses can be transmitted from animals to humans. Bats can be reservoir hosts for viruses which can cross species barriers to infect humans and other domestic and wild mammals.According to organizations such as the AVMA and the World Organisation for Animal Health, at this point, we do not have sustained evidence that animals such as dogs and cats become ill from this virus. It's important to remember that viruses can sometimes infect a species but not cause illness in that species, nor become transmissible to others. At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19 or that they might be a source of infection in the United States.

Q = Should I wear a mask to protect myself?

A = Only wear a mask if you are ill with COVID-19 symptoms (especially coughing) or looking after someone who may have COVID-19. Disposable face mask can only be used once. If you are not ill or looking after someone who is ill then you are wasting a mask. There is a world-wide shortage of masks, so WHO urges people to use masks wisely.

WHO advises rational use of medical masks to avoid unnecessary wastage of precious resources and mis-use of masks (see Advice on the use of masks).

The most effective ways to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are to frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) from people who are coughing or sneezing. See basic protective measures against the new coronavirus for more information.

Q: Are antibiotics effective in preventing or treating the COVID-19?
A: No. Antibiotics do not work against viruses, they only work on bacterial infections. COVID-19 is caused by a virus, so antibiotics do not work. Antibiotics should not be used as a means of prevention or treatment of COVID-19. They should only be used as directed by a physician to treat a bacterial infection.

Q: Should I wear a mask to protect myself?
A: Wearing a face mask is certainly not an iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick – viruses can also transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, can penetrate masks. However, masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone (although others have found lower levels of effectiveness).

    Q:Should I worry about COVID 19?
A:Corona virus has triggered uncertainty throughout the world and the news about this plague seems to never subside.
All of this can affect mental health, especially for those who already have inherited mental problems such as anxiety disorders or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
Then how can we maintain our mental health?
When the World Health Organization (WHO) released tips on maintaining mental health amid a corona virus outbreak, many people praised it on social media.
As explained by Nicky Lidbetter of the charity Anxiety UK, anxiety due to helplessness and failure to tolerate uncertainty are characteristic in many cases of anxiety disorders.
So it can be understood if many individuals who already have anxiety disorders will feel increasingly depressed at times like this.
"Most anxiety arises because of worrying about something not yet manifesting and waiting for something to happen - the corona virus causes such anxiety but on a large scale," said Rosie Weatherley, spokeswoman for the mental health charity working in the UK, Mind.

A:1.Remember, a mask should only be used by health workers, care takers, and individuals with respiratory symptoms, such as fever and cough.
2.Before touching the mask, clean hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
3.Take the mask and inspect it for tears or holes.
4.Orient which side is the top side (where the metal strip is).
5.Ensure the proper side of the mask faces outwards (the coloured side).
6.Place the mask to your face. Pinch the metal strip or stiff edge of the mask so it moulds to the shape of your nose.
7.Pull down the mask’s bottom so it covers your mouth and your chin.
8.After use, take off the mask; remove the elastic loops from behind the ears while keeping the mask away from your face and clothes, to avoid touching potentially contaminated surfaces of the mask.
10.Discard the mask in a closed bin immediately after use.
11.Perform hand hygiene after touching or discarding the mask – Use alcohol-based hand rub or, if visibly soiled, wash your hands with soap and water.

A: Coronavirus is a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, the corona virus causes mild respiratory infections, such as some cases of the common cold (among other causes, especially rhinoviruses), and others that can be deadly, such as SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Symptoms in other species vary: in chickens, they cause upper respiratory tract disease, whereas in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There is no vaccine or antiviral drug to prevent it.

Q:Is there a vaccine, drug or treatment for COVID-19?

A: Not yet. To date, there is no vaccine and no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-2019. However, those affected should receive care to relieve symptoms. People with serious illness should be hospitalized. Most patients recover thanks to supportive care.

Possible vaccines and some specific drug treatments are under investigation. They are being tested through clinical trials. WHO is coordinating efforts to develop vaccines and medicines to prevent and treat COVID-19.

The most effective ways to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are to frequently clean your hands, cover your cough with the bend of elbow or tissue, and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3 feet) from people who are coughing or sneezing. (See Basic protective measures against the new coronavirus).

No.

    Question:How does COVID-19 spread?

    Answer :Person-to-person spread
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects
It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Q: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), COVID-19 is transmitted through people who have been infected with the corona virus. Q:How long does the virus survive on surfaces?
    A:
    1. Glass

SARS-CoV-2 corona virus apparently can also survive on slippery surfaces such as glass. The virus can live long in the glass for approximately five days.

Therefore it is necessary to frequently clean objects made of glass.

    2. Plastic and steel

The corona virus COVID-19 is known to live long in plastics and steel, including iron. The virus can last up to about 72 hours equivalent to 2 or 3 days. But the number of viruses that are feasible or capable of transmitting, has declined sharply during this time.

    3. Copper

Launching from the New York Times and USAToday, SARS-CoV-2 corona virus attached to copper will last for approximately four hours.

    4. Air

Researchers say that the corona virus can be suspended for about half an hour in the air before settling on the surface of an object. Even so, the corona virus remains in the air still in the stage of further research.

Meanwhile Dr. Vincent Munster, a virologist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that the virus can last about 10 to 30 minutes in the air. However, there is also a mention that the virus can survive in the air for up to three hours.

    5. Paper

Launching from The New York Times, the corona virus is able to survive and stick for 24 hours in a cardboard box. When compared with others, cardboard has a lower risk of corona virus attached.

Nevertheless, for those of you who use cardboard, you should still be vigilant and cautious.

    6. Wood

You might be afraid to open the door because you think there will be a virus attached to the surface. Although it is still in further research how long the Corona virus can last in wood, but due to its hard surface there is still the possibility of other hard objects.

    7. Gloves

For those of you who wear gloves, as much as possible to always wash it after wearing because the virus can also last long enough on the gloves.

SARS-CoV-2 Corona virus can stay alive in gloves for up to 8 hours.

Question:Can humans become infected with the COVID-19 from an animal source?

Answer:Some coronaviruses that infect animals have become able to infect humans and then spread between people, but this is rare. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) are examples of diseases caused by coronaviruses that originated in animals and spread to people. This is what is suspected to have happened with the virus that caused the current outbreak of COVID-19. However, we do not know the exact source of this virus. Public health officials and partners are working hard to identify the source of COVID-19. The first infections were linked to a live animal market, but the virus is now spreading from person to person. The coronavirus most similar to the virus causing COVID-19 is the one that causes SARS.

At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19 or that they might be a source of infection in the United States.

If there is an urgent need, when is the best time to leave the house during the Corona virus outbreak?

Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. If there is no soap and water, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Rub on all surfaces of the hands and rub evenly to dry.

Avoid touching the nose, mouth and eyes with hands that have not been washed thoroughly.

    Avoid Close Contact

Avoid close contact with sick people. Leave a distance between you and the person who is sick if Covid-19 spreads around you.

This is very important to do to prevent transmission of the virus. Especially for people who are at high risk for severe illness.

Stay at home if you are sick

If you are sick, try to stay at home except for medical treatment. Check your condition with your doctor for further treatment.

Cover your nose and mouth if you cough or sneeze

If you are coughing or want to sneeze, don't forget to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow. Then throw the used tissue in the trash.

Wash your hands immediately with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Use a Mask if it hurts

If you are sick, wear a mask when near other people, such as in public transportation, shared rooms and before you enter the examination room at the health service center.

If you don't wear a mask because you have difficulty breathing, then you have to do something else to close your sneezing and coughing.

For someone who is treating you, remind you to wear a mask when entering your room. Learn and know what to do if you are sick.

For healthy people, you don't need to wear a mask. Unless you are treating a sick person and that person is not wearing a mask.

A :A new virus called the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been identified as the cause of a disease outbreak that began in China in 2019. The disease is called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The virus is a type of coronavirus — a family of viruses that can cause illnesses such as the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).

Cases of COVID-19 have been reported in a growing number of countries, including the U.S. WHO declared a global pandemic in March 2020. Public health groups, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are monitoring the situation and posting updates, treatment and prevention recommendations on their websites.

    How does COVID-19 spread?

If you are not ill or looking after someone who is ill then you are wasting a mask. There is a world-wide shortage of masks, so WHO urges people to use masks wisely.

    Q:what is a coronavirus?
    A:
Coronavirus (CoV) is a large family of viruses that cause diseases, ranging from the common cold to more severe illnesses, such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). Most coronaviruses are harmless viruses.

Coronavirus is a zoonotic virus, meaning that this virus is spread through animals and humans.

Quoted from WHO, the investigation shows that the corona virus that causes SARS (SARS-CoV) is transmitted from ferrets to humans. Meanwhile, animals that transmit coronaviruses that cause MERS (MERS-CoV) to humans are dromedary camels. There are also several other viruses found in animals, but have not infected humans.

Corona virus in humans was first discovered in 1960 in the nose of patients affected by the common cold (common cold).

Two coronaviruses in humans, namely OC43 and 229E, are responsible for the occurrence of a portion of the common cold.

This virus is named based on a crown-like projection on its surface. "Corona" in Latin means "hello" or "crown".

The spread of coronavirus is the same as viruses that cause other flu, such as from coughing and sneezing, or from the touch of an infected person.

Almost all people have been infected with the corona virus at least once in their lifetime, usually occurring in children.

Coronavirus is a virus that generally appears in the fall and winter in the United States. However, everyone can get this virus at any time.
